Rest

Today’s post is a reminder to rest.

Whatever that means for you.

Take some time to do something you might not normally do for yourself. 💖

While it’s not always easy to make the time to rest, your body and soul will thank you. This break gives our body a chance to recharge after the hard work all week.

How to get started

No rules. Just do what you think is restful. The first thing to remember is that this is a gift for you. This time of rest is God’s way of giving you some needed time away from the toil of every day.

Don’t compare your day to someone else’s. Indeed, they will likely look very different! Rather, focus on what rest looks like for you and your family.

If it’s too much to think about an entire day, then choose an activity you have been wanting to do and do it!

Rest is important

The National Institutes of Health report that rest is important for our health.

Psychologist Claudia Hammond says that rest includes lots of activities, including daydreaming. When’s the last time you spent time outside just daydreaming? I know, right!? Sunday is a great day to make that happen.

Researchers at Pepperdine University say that, “Resting allows us to quiet ourselves before God and revives our minds, bodies, and spirits. Resting as a spiritual practice is intentional and can be practiced in community or alone.” So learn to practice rest with your family.

Focus on the Family identifies three types of rest and they include physical, mental, and spiritual. If you are overwhelmed by the thought of an entire day off, then begin with just one area and move on from there.

I truly believe htat when you give yourself the oppoprtuntiy to really unplug from your routine of every day life – household tasks, work, maintenance – you will be able to sink into the joy and rejuvenation that follows.
