Book Review Roundup 2023
Welcome to the Book Review Roundup! Here, you will find a compilation of all the book reviews I have written at Write.Speak.Relate. Whether you are looking for tips for getting your teen to read, a heartwarming tale, or a thought-provoking non-fiction book, this roundup has got you covered. Grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and explore the magical world of literature!
The American Psychological Association tells us that when teens read they build cognitive complexity and critical thinking skills. Those two skills are essential for adults to have. Want to get your teen to read, too? Here are some ideas.
Without further ado, here are the book reviews:
Nonfiction
- Choose Joy: Because Happiness isn’t Enough – In this down to earth book, Kay Warren walks us through why joy should be our goal and not situational happiness. This book is one of my all-time favorites.
- How to Prepare for Teenagers – Gary Chapman provides an easy read with this short book about preparing for the inevitable teen years. He takes a personal and professional stance as he’s raised teens as well as counseled about them. He also provides excellent additional resources that are super helpful.
- Made for This Moment – If you’re a fan of Max Lucado, you’ll love this book based on the biblical book of Esther. Especially important is the focus on doing what needs to be done and helping others.
Fiction
- Before the Coffee Gets Cold – This imaginative book takes us through the “what if” of life’s decisions. Well written by Toshikazu Kawaguchi, I think you’ll really enjoy the book.
- Aftermath – I love fiction by Terri Blackstock. Her writing and imagination always carry me away. You won’t be disappointed.
- Ladies Uncover a Secret – is part of a three-part series by Robin Luftig. The stories are well crafted and share the friendship of three very different ladies.
- Daughter of the Promise – This Amish-based series is all about women who choose to focus on faith, hope, and love as they journey through life. Altogether, this series is heartwarming and a breath of fresh air in today’s stressful world.
- Alaskan Courage Series – The Alaskan Courage by Dani Pettrey series focuses on five adult children: Cole, Piper, Gage, Kayden, & Reef. Consequently, each one has an adventure to conquer and manages to find the love of family and friends at the core of their success.
- The Good Dream – This story by Donna VanLiere ends well. Despite some challenging themes, The Good Dream is well written with a plot line that makes you feel for the characters.
Compilations for Seasons
- Summer 2023 – Equally important is a list of summer books. Here’s my best list for summer this year, it includes fiction, nonfiction, and Bible study
- Christmas 2023: Coming soon!
