How to Start Healing Today for Christian Women
Last Updated on January 23, 2025 by Andrea
Have you ever felt the need for deeper healing—something that goes beyond physical aches and reaches into your heart and soul? Christian healing offers that kind of restoration, rooted in the spiritual laws of God and the transformative power of prayer. Through Jesus Christ, we have access to profound spiritual healing that renews not only our bodies but also our spirits and minds.
In this post, we’ll explore how Christian healing prayer works and how embracing the promises of God can lead to a life of wholeness and peace. Let’s uncover the incredible gift of healing that Jesus provides for all who seek Him.
Scripture
Now Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. And just then there appeared a woman with a spirit that had crippled her for 18 years. She was bent over and was quite unable to stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your ailment.” When he laid his hands on her, immediately she stood up straight and began praising God. Luke 13:10-13 NRSV
Jesus Heals Afflicted Woman
By all accounts, when the woman entered the synagogue that Sabbath day, she was not expecting healing. After all, she had been there at least once a week for the last 18 years and had received none. Who knows if her hope was long gone by that time. Somehow, she learned to live crippled under the weight of her burden. Like a physical illness, for affliction accompanied her everywhere she went. In all likelihood, all of her experiences were filtered through this affliction. However, she remained faithful to God. She wasn’t actively seeking help. She simply wanted to honor him on the Sabbath.
However, Jesus saw her. He knew her pain, and He called her over.
He saw her.
How many people looked at her, shook their head, and went about their way? They dismissed her affliction with pity. If you probably whispered prayers along the lines of, “I’m sure glad that’s not me. Bless her God.“ However, Jesus did not pity her, he took action! He set her free.
Jesus still heals
I have battled depression for most of my life. It clings to me like the humid weather in Florida. It affects everything I do and all of my relationships. Depression is real and it steals many of my days.
However, I know that Jesus wants to heal me of this – I just have to leave the healing in his hands. I can’t keep picking it up. The enemy can’t convince me that depression is God‘s best for me. I can’t let the enemy convince me that depression is my lot in life. No. Rather, I can choose to claim God‘s healing today, then every day that comes.
Healing Reality
There is a great group called Christian Healing Ministries that does exactly what it sounds – they help us heal through the power of the Lord Jesus. They use Christian perspectives to focus on healing our bodies, minds, and souls. They pray in the name of Jesus for inner healing. If you are local, they provide a quiet place to learn about healing and to embrace it for yourself. I’ve been to one of their conferences and was transformed by it.
There is a sad reality about healing, however. Some people will tell you that God’s goodness isn’t enough for healing. They will try to convince you that hurtful past events make you who you are. They say that a lack of faith is what is keeping you down.
I’m so sorry for the people who have lied to you. The Word of God (see above) is clear that God WANTS to heal you. He wants you to be whole in Him. Your spiritual health is important but it’s not required for your healing. God said that a mustard seed (tiny) of faith is enough. Jesus’ teaching are clear that God wants you to have faith in Him and your faith can make you well. God will make you well. We can choose healing every day. I do.
It’s Your Turn
And you can too. What’s tormenting you may be crippling you on the inside, and it may be something no one sees.
But Jesus sees you and he wants to set you free.
If illness does not cripple you, take time to praise God and pray for others who need to be set free.
Resources:
As I considered various resources, I wanted to be sensitive to avoid those that say a lack of healing is a lack of faith. That’s not true at all – Scripture does not tell us this. However, there is real healing in our faith and in Scripture. I decided to just give you one resource and it’s one I trust over and over again: Divine Healing by Andrew Murray. While Murray’s style is a bit old-school but his interpretation and application of Scripture are solid, so this is the only one I recommend in this article. I pray it brings you comfort. Let’s Pray:
Heavenly Father, I lift up your name in praise today with thanks for your grace and mercy that are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness to us. I pray for my friends that are reading this and have an affliction that is crippling them. Lord, I pray that they will find their identity in you and not their affliction. Father, please prompt my friends to be willing to accept your healing for them. Grant them your peace that passes all understanding and guard them, Lord. Protect their hearts and minds and bodies and soul from the enemy this day and forever more. I pray that as they claim your healing they would begin to experience your peace every single day. I pray that your Spirit would inhabit these friends and guide them on the path of healing and wholeness that you have for them. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
Remember, God sees you and wants to heal you.
With love,
🌸 Andrea
