The Chosen Series ~ s1:E5 “The Wedding Gift”

SUMMARY of The Chosen S1:E5: 

• Joseph and Mary “lose” Jesus in Jerusalem. 
• A friend of the family gets married and Jesus attends. While there He performs His first miracle. 
• Nicodemus talks with John the Baptist about who he is and what his purpose is. 

There is some dramatic license taken, of course. Did Thomas bring the wine? Was Andrew a bad dancer? Did the bride’s family disdain the bridegroom’s family? Likely not exactly as we see it, but the core is still rooted in Scripture – the ultimate Truth. The rest is just details to flesh out what we already know.

So let’s look at what we really know: 

FACTS & BACKGROUND

Jesus did in fact stay behind after the Passover feast in Jerusalem and they did find Him teaching adults in the Temple. It was an unsettling time for Mary and Joseph. 

There was indeed a wedding, we just aren’t told in Scripture whose wedding it was. Of course, Dallas needed to have someone get married, so Mary’s best friend’s son is perfect. Jesus does perform his first public miracle there. 

We know that Nicodemus did speak with Jesus (John 3) but there is no clear evidence that he interviewed or met with John the Baptist. That doesn’t mean he didn’t, though.
