VERSES FROM THE CHOSEN EPISODE 3:
- Matthew 19:14 Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these
- Jesus and the children sing from Psalm 133:1 – “Behold, how good and pleasing when brothers live together in unity.” This is in reference to all of them working together – boys and girls – and speaks to the future time of Jews and Gentiles.
- When defending himself for bullying another child, a boy claims, “but even Torah says ‘eye for eye’” from Exodus 21:24. Jesus points out that this verse comes from a court of law, not school.
- Jesus reminds the children of Scripture from the Law of Moses regarding justice and vengeance, “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay”(Deuteronomy 32;35).
- David had the chance to kill king Saul, but he didn’t (1 Samuel 24 and 1 Samuel 26). Worth reading!
- God says he will have compassion for his people when their strength is gone (from Deuteronomy 32:36, “For the Lord will judge His people and have compassion on His servants, When He sees that their power is gone…”).
- “He will be most pleased with those who are the peacemakers” Jesus said to Abigail and friends. Eventually this is part of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons (and daughters) of God” (Matthew 5:9).
- Jesus says that many times adults need the faith of children. This is from Matthew 18:3-4: “The he (Jesus) said, ‘I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven. So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest i the Kingdom of Heaven.’”
- Jesus says, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty for the captives and the recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18-19, citing Isaiah 61:1-2).
RESOURCES:
- Let the little children come to me art:
- This book is a great look into the history of Judaism in simple terms. Understanding this history sheds light on the stories referenced in this episode.
- These two studies by Jen Wilkin walk us through the book of Exodus (God of Deliverance and God of Freedom). God of Deliverance covers the first 18 chapters of Exodus while God of Freedom covers chapters 19-40. Both come with video access included in the study. For anyone wanting a deeper understanding of this book, these studies are outstanding. I did them both as part of a Bible study group las year and learned a tremendous amount. I highly recommend these.
