30 Quotes for Waiting on God to send a Husband

one hand giving a heart to another hand. Title at the top: 30 Quotes for Waiting on God to send a Husband and author website at the bottom - dr andrea towers scott dot com

If you’re unmarried, chances are you are anxiously waiting on God to send a husband for you. I remember those days. I felt like God didn’t see me. Like He didn’t see my desire to be a wife and a mother. I wanted the perfect man for me so bad that I prayed daily for Him to send someone. Each guy I dated had characteristics I liked but he wasn’t “the one.”

It’s hard to wait on God for anything. But waiting on God to send a husband is particularly challenging. We look at the span of our lives and we dread being alone for it. We don’t want to attend holiday gatherings and parties by ourself. Bridal and baby showers are sheer torture. We know marriage is a good thing. Yet it seems marriage may not be in the cards for us. Our future husband remains elusive.

Marriage is indeed a good thing. At the right time. Pushing it and marrying Mr. Wrong is never a good idea. God has perfect timing and a perfect plan. It just seems like His timing sometimes takes a while. His ways are not our ways, nor is His timing our timing (Isaiah 55:8-9). The Apostle Paul is clear about when we should get married: “To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am.But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion” (1 Corinthians 7:8-9).” Focus on the Family has a great article about Paul’s views on marriage and being single. A lot of times we are so focused on being married that we forget the blessings of being single.

What to do While You Wait

  1. Know there is no one right way to wait. These are just suggestions. Seek God and His wisdom for your actions while you wait.
  2. Grow in your love and knowledge of God. Study Scripture. Join a Bible study. Heck, lead a Bible study! Throw yourself into God’s Word. Spiritual growth is a wonderful character trait.
  3. Seek wise counsel. Talk with someone older than you who can be a good mentor. Older single women can be great mentors, particularly if they are content.
  4. Study the will of God. Do a word study for “will of God” – you’ll learn a lot of start to live your life to be in His will and not your own.
  5. Serve your community. Helping others is a great way to get our mind off our own problems. Here’s an article with good ideas for volunteering.
  6. Take up a hobby. Learning something new is a great way to spend your time outside work, especially during a long season of waiting. Learning a new hobby give you personal growth and that’s always appealing.
  7. Learn about good marriages. Be prepared for when the right person comes along by knowing how to be a good, Godly wife. See here for books I’ve reviewed.

Bottom Line

These quotes and verses remind us that there is more to life than a spouse. The kingdom of God needs workers willing to work, married or not.

Bottom line is focus on God while you wait. He is the only one that will fill all your emotional needs, anyway. Love God with your whole heart. Being a single woman today is hard, I get it. But listening to the Holy Spirit, trusting God with the desires of our hearts, and embracing this waiting season will get you through this difficult journey.

Having finally found my right man, I know that he was worth waiting for. He’s my best friend and partner. Yet a lot of people are still waiting and I’m so very sorry. This waiting period seems like it takes forever. Yet the will of God is worth waiting for, I promise.

With love,

🌸 Andrea
