I’ve mentioned in other posts that I like to start every day with study, reading Scripture, and prayer. The quiet morning before kids, spouse, and dogs are awake is precious to me. It’s during this time that I’m most in touch with the needs I want to present to God, including those needs of my family members and friends.

Though I love my coffee and baked treat, I know that a blessed morning begins with more than just coffee—it starts with powerful prayers that set the tone for the day. Taking a moment for a daily morning prayer for your friends is one of the best ways to uplift, encourage, and strengthen them as they navigate life’s challenges. When you pray for others, you invite God’s presence into their day, asking Him to guide them on the right path, fill them with peace, and provide for their needs.

Praying for Friends

Praying for friends in the morning not only blesses them but also enriches your own heart. It fosters deeper relationships, strengthens your faith, and brings a sense of joy in knowing you are interceding on their behalf. Whether they are facing difficulties or simply need an extra dose of encouragement, your good morning prayers can make a real difference.

When you commit to starting each day with a daily morning prayer for your friends, you are choosing to be a vessel of God’s love and grace. And in return, you’ll find your own heart filled with peace, gratitude, and purpose. So why not take a moment now to pray and help your friends have a good day? I know some people don’t know how to pray or are not comfortable saying their own prayers. I’m here to help! I have ten general prayers for you and five Scripture-based prayers you can pray every morning for your friends. You don’t have to pray all of the, just pray any as needed.

Here are some example prayers to get you started.

Personalizing Scripture Prayers for Friends

It’s always wonderful to personalize Scripture for our loved ones. We can do this by inserting their name into Scriptures (i.e., the Lord is [Friend’s Name’s] shepherd, he/she will not be in need). We can also pray Scripture back to God and tie in prayers for our friends with that Scripture. That’s the method I am including below.

Prayer for Strength and Courage (Joshua 1:9)

“Lord, You have commanded us to be strong and courageous, not afraid or discouraged, for You are with us wherever we go (Joshua 1:9). I pray for [Friend’s Name] today—fill them with Your strength and courage. Whatever challenges they face, remind them that they are never alone. Let them walk in confidence, knowing that You are by their side. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Prayer for God’s Peace (Philippians 4:6-7)

“Father, You tell us not to be anxious about anything, but in everything, through prayer and thanksgiving, to present our requests to You. And You promise that Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7). I lift up [Friend’s Name] to You today—calm their worries, fill them with the peace of God, and help them trust You completely. Let Your presence bring comfort to their heart. In the name of Jesus, Amen.”

Prayer for Wisdom and Guidance (Proverbs 3:5-6)

“Lord, You call us to trust in You with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding, but to acknowledge You in all our ways so that You will make our paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6). I pray for [Friend’s Name] today—give them wisdom in every decision and clarity in every step. Lead them on the right path and remind them that Your ways are always best. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Prayer for God’s Blessings and Favor (Numbers 6:24-26)

“Dear Heavenly Father, I pray Your blessing over [Friend’s Name] today: ‘The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace’ (Numbers 6:24-26). Pour out Your favor upon them, provide for their needs, provide them good health, and let them walk in the joy of Your presence. Amen.”

Prayer for Spiritual Growth and Strength (Colossians 1:9-10)

O God, just as Paul prayed for the Colossians, I pray for [Friend’s Name] today. Fill them with the knowledge of Your will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so they may live a life worthy of You, pleasing You in every way—bearing fruit in every good work and growing in their knowledge of You (Colossians 1:9-10). Strengthen their faith, deepen their love for You, and let them shine as a light for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

How to Pray for a Friend

Whether you choose to use these prayers or make your own, keep in mind that a simple prayer goes a long way. You do not need to be flowery or long-winded. Remember to give thanks to God for His provision and blessing when you pray, too. Jesus demonstrated this for us with the Lord’s prayer, so we would be wise to follow His example.

Let your great love for your friend guide how you pray for him/her. You know their needs, so in addition to these general prayers, pray specifically for their needs. There are opposing views about whether we should tell God what solution is best or to pray for His will. I almost always err on the side of praying for God’s will. I certainly do not see the big picture, as God does, so I trust His judgment on the best solution for the problems in my own and my friends’ lives. Remember to thank God for answering your prayers, too. He always loves when we show appreciation for taking care of us!
