Nonfiction book Review: how to prepare for teenagers

Things I wish I’d known before my child became a teenager by Gary Chapman (yes, author of the 5 love language series) is a simple read with profound effects.

Written with short chapters and easy to read language, you’re going to fly right through it. Topics include communication, psychology, faith, and more.

One question to ask is: Do you want your teen to follow your example?

Gary Chapman, chapter 8

My favorite part of this book is that each chapter equips us with resources related to the chapter topic of raising teenagers. Those resources include websites, podcasts, and books. There’s really something for everyone.

Each chapter also has a “think about it” section that would be great to spark decision for parents of teenagers. Talking about these questions will not only solidify your parenting but bring you closer to your spouse.

Of course, I love that Gary Chapman is credible and has a proven track record of quality books with sound ideas that are all rooted in Scripture. In my opinion, he’s one of the authors that you can’t go wrong with.

Gary Chapman has two other “Things I wish I’d known” books – Things I wish I’d known before we got married and Things I wish I’d known before we became parents. While I haven’t read them, I am guessing they are just as good!
