It’s Time for Game Night
Last Updated on March 21, 2023 by Andrea
Sometimes families get in a rut and we wonder what in the world we can do for fun.
Family game night is a great way to build a successful family. While there are many ways to be a successful family, few are as fun as game night! Honestly, my husband isn’t a “game guy” but we can always find at least one that he’ll play – and end up liking.
There might be a new one here for you, so take a look. Enjoy family game night!

Games for all seasons
At the time I’m writing this, Black Friday is right around the corner. Thanksgiving is in 2 days. My sister and I will venture out for coffee, shopping, and laughs on Friday. Then on Cyber Monday, sales online will skyrocket.
Obviously, Christmas is a great time to give games as gifts.
Honestly, though, games are a great gift all year long. My kids always liked receiving them for birthday gifts, whether from us or their friends. Game also make great get well gifts, Easter basket treats, Valentine’s Day goodies, and “welcome to summer” kickoff. Games are truly a gift for any occasion.
While games are generally marked for certain ages, most are fun for all ages. Of course, keep adult-themed games for nighttime when kiddos are in bed. But those aren’t the family game night kind I’m talking about here, anyway.
“Mom, won’t you play with me?”
I know my kids aren’t alone in wanting time to play with me. Yes, they play their electronics. Back in the day, Among Us, Minecraft, and Fortnite were daily requests.
But given the opportunity, they will jump at the chance to play a “real” game – even at 14 and 18 years old!
It’s time to buy a new game!
Here are a few suggestions. Some of these you may need to dust off from your closet – others you may want to buy. I’ve included links for all, just in case. If you hurry you might be able to get one delivered tomorrow and you could be playing almost as quickly as getting it out of your own closet.
Some games are tried-and-true like:
Battleship. I even liked this as a kid! This includes some logic and critical thinking. It’s really only good for two people, though we’ve successfully played with teams of two on each side. The game’s look has been updated.
Monopoly is always fun. This is a good hurricane game, too! It takes a while but allows several people to play. Again, a good game for critical thinking and decision making. I like this because you can play “friendly” or hard core competitive! If the traditional game isn’t to your liking, we also like Dino-opoly. There are also National Parks, Unicorns, Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel Avengers, Disney Princesses, Disney Villains, Fortnite , and even Elf versions!
Clue is a great whodunit game – one that requires critical thinking and great family interaction.
My boys love the classic game, Risk. This is a great strategy game for boys centered on troop movements around the world.
Finally, we like the newer game Rubik’s Race. This one is really just for two players but is fast and requires logical, spatial thinking.
We also like the new meme game for families, What Do You Meme for Families.
No matter what game you choose, take some time to play a game as a family. Your family will enjoy the time together as you build memories! Successful families can be built as easily as playing a board game!
