Best Christian Books to Buy This Black Friday

Last Updated on November 26, 2025 by Andrea

I love reading. Even nonfiction gives me an escape from the everyday stress of life. I read predominantly Christian books, so I wanted to share with you the best Christian books to buy this Black Friday. This Christmas gift guide can help you find great books for yourself and your family and friends.

I’ve read each and every book on this list and done each Bible study. The descriptions are my own and not borrowed from somewhere else.

Here you’ll find a wide variety of books from nonfiction, Bible study, and fiction recommendations. Sprinkled in I’ve also included author recommendations. For my favorite authors, I couldn’t list every one of their books. In those cases, I picked my favorites to discuss. But you can find other books by them if you click the link for any of their books.

I hope you enjoy this list of the best Christian books to buy this Black Friday! Maybe a great Christmas sale will enable you to get a few books for yourself for the new year, too.

Nonfiction

I love nonfiction. I learn a lot and most have great resources for additional study. This list covers topics that may be of interest as well as some more Scripture-focused books. I truly believe there’s something for every Christian here.

Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table by Louis Giglio

My current Christian book nonfiction favorite, Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table reminds us that we have a choice. We can let the enemy settle into our banquet with God and invade our thoughts or we can kick him out. Obviously, kicking him out is in our best interests! Giglio gives great tips for doing this that are easy to follow and implement in your daily life. If you struggle with self-defeating thoughts or actions, I highly suggest this book.

Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas

Sacred Marriage is probably my ultimate favorite marriage book. It’s not for the faint of heart, though! Here Thomas clearly outlines the biblical purpose for marriage (hint: it’s not earthly pleasure). He then follows up with how to live out a Christ-centered marriage. He addresses communication skills, thought patterns, and opposition. If you truly want a God-focused marriage, you can’t beat this book.

Tame Your Thoughts by Max Lucado

I love Max Lucado books. If you’ve been here at Dr. Andrea Towers Scott.com then you have heard me say this before. Tame Your Thoughts is centered around three tools to help readers “renew your mind and transform your life.” Sounds ambitious, but Lucado succeeds. Using Scripture as the backdrop for this thought revolution, Lucado uses his easy writing style to show us how we can stop fretting, spinning, and worrying and instead focus on the God who has us in the palm of His hand. Perhaps my favorite part is that there is an appendix of topic-related Scriptures to keep handy when your thoughts are out of control. If you struggle with your thought life, I highly recommend Tame Your Thoughts.

What Happens Next by Max Lucado

Wow. That’s what I kept saying as I read this book. In What Happens Next Lucado unpacks Scriptures about the End Times. What do the End of Days look like? Are we nearing them? What does it mean when Scripture says Jesus will return? Those questions and dozens more are clearly answered in What Happens Next. He presents a timeline and visuals that make understanding these Revelations much more manageable.

Love & Respect by Emerson Eggerichs

A Christian classis now, Love and Respect takes a deep dive into Ephesians 5 and explores what Paul has to say for husbands and wives. He explores not only what Paul means by his instructions from a historical viewpoint but also from a practical perspective. Using lots of examples from real people he’s worked with, Eggerichs gives practical relationship skills advice. If you want to show your spouse the kind of love described in Ephesians 5, this book is for you.

The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman

The 5 Love Languages is another Christian classic. In fact, Chapman has expanded the book to an entire series addressing 5 love languages for men, singles, appreciation in the workplace, apologies, children, teens, and a few Spanish version options. The first, 5 Love Languages, introduces readers to the five languages and discusses how we can show our spouse we love them in way that they will understand. I love the practical ideas he includes in this book. While it may seem simplistic, I’ve tested these ideas and he’s right! I’ve applied these ideas in my marriage and with my kids and find they feel better loved when I show them in a way they can relate to. The 5 Love Languages universe also includes a game, a Bible study with video access, a workbook, and a devotional.

Love Does by Bob Goff

I love Bob Goff. Most of the links I’m including here are for the audio book because frankly, his reading voice makes all of his books! (If you don’t have Audible, you an sign up through the links.) He reads his own work, so you really get what he means by his inflection and tone. Love Does challenges readers/listeners to love others as Christ loves us. Such a simple concept, right? But oh, so difficult to put into practice. In Love Does, Goff explains why this love is so crucial for ourselves and society. He also gives practical examples for how to live out Christ’s love. My son and I listened to this in the car one summer and were cracking up. Goff is hilarious! If you get this, be listening for the nudist colony bit. It’s unexpected and sidesplitting!

Walking with God by John Eldgredge

In Walking with God, Eldredge presents our lifetime with God as a series of seasons. Sometimes it’s fresh and new while other times it feels like a frozen winter. But each has a purpose in our relationship with our Lord. Eldredge is a wonderful author, filled with wisdom and understands how to really connect with God. I’ve been happy with all his books, but this one may be my favorite. If you struggle to hear God’s voice, this book is very insightful.

Bible Studies

I love Bible studies. They center my thoughts and really connect me with God.

You’ll find that many nonfiction books come with a study embedded, or a separate study. So you may find studies just from buying a nonfiction book.

Here I list two of my favorite Bible study authors and the studies that I’ve done and loved with them. Then I list some of the studies I’ve really enjoyed in the past year. I hope you get some good ideas. Remember your friends and family may enjoy them, too!

Author: Priscilla Shirer

Honestly, if I had to choose a favorite Bible study author, it would likely be Priscilla Shirer. Her knowledge and love of Scripture is so palpable. And she makes me want to know God better.

I have no desire to meet famous people, but I would totally love to meet Priscilla! I feel like some of her passion and knowledge could just come to me through a handshake (or a hug, that would be amazing, too!).

Okay, my favorite studies of hers are:

Elijah: Faith & Fire

A study about how to be bold for Christ. I want this so bad I can taste it! The study definitely helped me learn to be more bold.

The Armor of God

Here she clearly explains how to put on our armor from Ephesians 6. I use the lessons learned in this study every day since completing the study.

Discerning the Voice of God – How to Recognize when God Speaks

This one is probably my very favorite of her studies, though they are probably all my favorites really; here she clearly demonstrates how to listen for God to speak to us.

Gideon – Your Weakness God’s Strength

This study helps us to feel equipped to successfully live out God’s calling for us; great study if you feel unworthy or unqualified to live the life God has called you to.

Jonah – Navigating a Life Interrupted

This study helps us cope with interruptions to life – to our plans, to our hopes, to our understanding of what life is all about. This deep study of Jonah helps us to see that God is in the midst of those interruptions, working all things for our good.

And Fervent – A Woman’s Battle Plan to Serious, Specific, and Strategic Prayer

This study is probably my second favorite; she outlines a clear way to pray that brought me closer to God than any other method ever has. I have done this study twice, that’s how much I like it.

She does have a few other studies, but these are my most favorite. I think you would enjoy any of them, though!

Max Lucado

Max is my other very favorite Bible study author. I have enjoyed every study I’ve done from him. And he’s prolific! He has dozens and dozens of studies, not to mention the studies at the end of most of his books. I have not done every single study, but I’ve never done a bad one from him. Max’s style is easy and engaging. If you’ve never done a Bible study before, these are a good start.

Tame Your Thoughts

This is the Bible study that accompanies the book I discussed above. Here you get to practice the skills he teaches in the book. I love that I came away with knowing exactly how to get control of my crazy thoughts.

What Happens Next

This is also a Bible study that pairs with the book by the same name. I really got a lot out of doing this study and reading the book. Some of the concepts discussed in Revelation can be difficult to grasp, so doing a study helped me make sense of it all. Really great study if you have an interest in End Times and how today’s cultural and political landscape fits into it.

Unshakable Hope

This Bible study helps us keep the faith. I’ve done this study when I felt at the very end of my rope and it helped me see that God had me in His hand the entire time. If you are feeling done in, buy this study!

Because of Bethlehem

This study is precious to me. An Advent study, Lucado helps us to revive our wonder about what God and Jesus did for us, rekindles our connection to Christ at Christmas, helps us move beyond our to-do list this season, and helps us to heal our heartache that comes from life. I highly recommend this Advent study!

And more!

Max Lucado also has an entire series of Life Lessons Bible Studies – most center on actual books in the Bible, though some are topical. I’ve done most of them and really enjoyed them. Bonus, most of them are well under $10 (and that’s before any Prime sales!).

If you aren’t familiar with studying the Bible, I recommend starting here, in Philippians. This book gives loads of practical advice that’s easy to understand.

If you want to start with studying Jesus’s life, then I recommend a study about Luke. I find Luke’s Gospel the most easy to understand and I think you’ll really enjoy Max’s presentation of the study.

Excellent Studies By Other Authors

Worthy – Embracing Your Identity in Christ by The Daily Grace Co.

If shame, self-doubt, self-criticism, and sorrow have taken hold in your life, as they had for mine, I believe you will benefit from this study. Worth is an excellent study that walks us who we really are in Christ. There are four identities that all come from our relationship with Jesus.

The 40 Day Body Image Workbook by Heather Creekmore

This book is part healthy workbook and part Bible study. Creekmore walks us through a healthy view of our body while rooting that look in Scripture. She weaves her ideas together so well. I enjoyed this study and it truly helped me reshape my body image. If you struggle at all with body image, I highly recommend you buy this book.

Becoming a Woman of Simplicity by Cynthia Heald

This Bible study is an excellent look at how we can embrace the now. Heald encourages us to bypass the distractions in favor of the simple. Here she teaches us how to live out the life Scripture describes for us and not the one the world tries to convince us to live. I found this to be a very centering study.

Fiction

For my other job I read a lot of research papers so in my time off I enjoy fiction. I’m a G-rated mama, though, so all of the recommendations here are clean fiction. No cursing or steamy sex scenes here.

All of these authors top my list for fiction authors. You really can’t go wrong with any book by these authors, so take a look!

Romance

The Blue Ridge Romance Collection by Denise Hunter

This three-book series is about misunderstandings and unexpected romance. The misunderstandings made me yell at the book and the romance was fun. Each book is an easy read and Denise Hunter weaves each story together very well.

Just Look Up by Courtney Walsh

Courtney Walsh is one of my favorite fiction authors. Just Look Up is about two people who are reunited after many years. They’ve never been a couple, but time has changed them. As one would expect, they are very different after they knew each other as kids. But God’s plan prevails. Set in a small town, this book is heartwarming and has some unexpected twists!

Friendship

The Summer of Yes by Courtney Walsh

I don’t let go easily. While I’m working on my controlling tendencies, they are still a part of me. This book is about two women – one nearing the end of her life and one much younger. Each has her own control issues. Enter the summer of yes. Their relationship made me long for a friendship like theirs. I loved that this wasn’t a typical romance. This book is primarily about the love of a friend and letting go of all our control to embrace new experiences.

RV There Yet? Diann Hunt

Another book about friendship, this funny story is about two women who embark on a road trip in an old RV. Their adventures are fun and remind readers to enjoy the journey. This hilarious story about two midlife women is perfect if you find yourself in a season you never expected!

Adventure

Aftermath by Terri Blackstock

This Christian suspense book is fantastic. Though all of her books are, to be honest. Here, three guys attend a concert when the unthinkable happens. The tragedy ends with only one of the friends surviving. Enter the police. The main character has to fight his grief while he fights a system that seems stacked against him. His attorney is his childhood friend who is determined to get to the truth. If you like a clean action book, this one is for you!

Conclusion

There you have it! My favorite nonfiction, fiction, and Bible study books as well as some of my favorite authors. I hope some of these provided good ideas for your family and friends for Christmas shopping. Here you have some great gifts to experience the joy of giving.

I can’t tell you if they will be on sale for Black Friday, but there can be significant discounts. I check back every day for items I like and most of them end up being on sale at some point between Black Friay and Cyber Monday/ , I can say many of them come in at under $10 regular price, so they aren’t expensive to begin with. Keep in mind you may find more options with Cyber Monday deals, too.
