Baked Goods Love
There’s just something about the combination of flour, sugar, eggs, and baking powder that turns basic ingredients into something near magical. To see eggs and sugar turn into a whipped masterpiece is beautiful to me. And the scent while it’s baking?? Mmmm. I simply love baked goods. And I realize that there are many reasons to indulge with moderation and be clear about why we’re indulging.

For the love of family
While I do love the process of baking (I find it very soothing), baking is one of my love languages. Consider it part acts of service, part gifts. I love to share my baking with others. And my family knows that. They know that when I bake for them, I’m showing them how much I appreciate all that they do for me.
When we feel loved by our family members we are more likely to show love back. See how that’s a good cycle to start? And love breeds all kinds of other good outcomes. When we are in the habit of showing love, it’s second nature. We all show each other love and create a home that everyone wants to end their day at.
Baking is more than just mixing ingredients—it’s a great way to show love to our family members. Whether you’re trying new recipes for the first time or perfecting an old favorite, the process of creating delicious treats brings joy to both the baker and those who enjoy the end result. No matter your skill level, baking sweet treats is a simple yet meaningful way to make loved ones feel special. From warm cookies fresh out of the oven to homemade cakes for celebrations, baked goods have a unique way of bringing families together.
What to bake?
I’m a huge fan of scratch cooking. I love following the recipe while putting my own spin on it. There’s just something about a good recipe, solid ingredients, and love to make a really good dessert. My favorite places for recipes are King Arthur Baking, Sally’s Baking Recipes, and Tastes Better from Scratch.

I love to bake fancy cakes. Now, I don’t make them all the time. Just a few times a year, generally for a special ocassion. But they are my favorite, by far. Jeff bought me the cake tools to really be successful one Christmas. I also use King Arthur unbleached flour and baking powder. I seriously see better results when I use their products.
Here’s a delicious cake I made in 2022. It’s a burnt sugar caramel cake from Sally.

Whatever you use, try your hand at making a fancy cake. Even if it’s not pin-worthy, it will be so much fun! If you do, please comment and let me know how it went!
Don’t discount cookies, though. Chocolate chip cookies are a favorite as are frosted sugar cookies. Younger kids can help roll dough, cut shapes, or stir in chocolate chips where older kids can take an even more active role in helping. The baking process itself is a time of bonding and creation that most kids really enjoy – almost as much as the final product!
Family traditions usually include family recipes and those are always a hit in my family. We love the thought of using a recipe that’s been handed down through the generations. An old recipe is usually the best recipe, in my opinion! Don’t wait for a special ocassion – just grab Grandma’s favorite recipes and start baking!
Don’t love scratch cooking?
That’s totally okay. You don’t need to have great baking skills to make awesome desserts. King Arthur Baking has some mixes that are delicious. They save time and there’s no complicated recipe to follow. If you love homemade baked goods but not the process, this is the way to go. The end result is the same – a delicious baked good to show love for your family. The simple act of baking creates memories, regardless of how you get there. Either way you end up with a sense of accomplishment and a fun treat to share.
Whatever you do, show the love
Clearly, baked goods are my #1 way to show my family love. If you haven’t tried it, go for it!
But baking isn’t for everyone. If you don’t know how to show love to your spouse and family, here are some ideas. The important part is to find some way to let them know how much you love them and be strategic about it.
Happy Baking!
